Format: Paperback - Graphic Novel

I REALLY enjoyed this title. So far it is the only book that I have Read that has our MC, Lily going through similar experiences that I am going though as a Trans Woman myself.

A Sketch of an open Eye

"First Year Out: A Transition Story" has moments where you feel complete happiness, confusion, and WARNING for ALL Readers - some parts of this amazing book may make you feel some discomfort with some of the content within, but all of it is a real eye opener - to what most if not all Transgender or Non-Binary Individuals may go through on a day-to-day basis.

This eye-opening book also helped further educate me on some matters that other Transgender and Non-Binary Individuals are going through/experience in their day-to-day life, and I am always open and striving to learn and discovering new things about myself, the Queer Community and those who are around me in my every day of my life.

Hello everyone, there are Potential Spoilers Ahead.

"First Year Out: A Transition Story" also delves into how Lily Navigates the

✨Wonderful World✨ of dating and the struggles that she goes through. For Example:

  • Having people find her attractive - but then doing a 180 when they find out that she is a Trans Woman.

Lily had to deal with some family hiccups as well. Her mum (while not being so understanding at first) did eventually come around to accepting her Daughter as she is. One example of this is:

  • Lily was in the Bathroom getting ready for a night out after her appointment at the Laser Clinic. She was putting on her makeup when her mum come into the bathroom and asks Lily why she puts on so much makeup if she wants to pass as a woman.

While reading this section of the book though - I decided to put myself in her mums' shoes to try and get her perspective and to see where she was coming from. I did manage to do so, as I am currently going through the same thing. In my situation I have family members still Dead Naming me - because they knew me as (Dead Name) for the past 20 years. Now I understand all of this an where they are coming from but there is still some education that needs to be done towards the Trans Community as a whole.

Another thing is Lily being afraid of what her father would say and how he would react knowing that he now has a daughter (I won't spoil what happens).

I definitely recommend this for anyone who wants to learn more about the Gender Diverse Community or would like a quick little read for a road trip or to pass time by.
